Atletico Madrid travel to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night where they will take on Mourinho’s Chelsea in the final leg of their semi final tie. There is no denying they will have a tough game ahead as Mourinho is up to his normal tactical mischievousness over the past few weeks, especially after beating Liverpool with his ‘weakened’ team at the weekend.
Chelsea go into this game with a few advantages, they are unbeaten against Atletico, they are on their home turf and also they have bundles more experience at this stage of the Champion’s League competition. Mourinho played the first leg well with his defensive ‘park the bus’ football but I don’t think he will be going with that philosophy this week, he will mostly likely go for the attack straight away so he can secure his lead early and then defend for the rest of the game.
Mourinho will be fielding his strongest side on the night and it might feature the return of Cech who has been out with a shoulder injury. Terry, Eto’o and Hazard have also trained this morning and could possibly feature in the game.
Atletico are having a dream season under new manager Diego Simeone, they’ve dominated La Liga for most of the season only losing 3 games so far and they’ve kept Barcelona and Real Madrid from their normal perch at the top of La Liga. It’s theirs for the taking, having not reached a semi-final in 40 years they have their work cut out for them but if Diego Simeone and his team can get through the Chelsea defence then this game could be theirs.
It’s going to be a battle of tactics and talent, both teams were equally good in the first leg but this is the time to secure the road to the final and there is no room for error with either team because the opposition will grab onto it and nick the win. This could be one of the most exciting games this season and whoever wins will have deserved it based on their performances so far. I can’t wait to watch this game!
