Last week new managers and old took their clubs to the pitches for their first game of the Premier League season and what an exciting weekend it was. Chelsea currently sit on the top with 6 points in total and Newcastle are at the bottom after a disastrous start against Man City, the second week is upon as and as always with the Premiership it is bound to be a good one. Here is all the latest news for your team’s game this weekend.
Fulham v Arsenal
The Gunners travel to Craven Cottage in the first London Derby of the season with a loss under their belt to rectify but are at least buoyed by their midweek win against Fenerbahce. Fulham won their first game of the season against Sunderland 1-0 after a header from Kasami, overall they played a defensive game but looked much stronger from the break. The game between Fulham and Arsenal is normally quite physical and I think this one will take a similar pattern.
Martin Jol has a full team to choose from but will likely leave out Maarten Stekelenburg and Kieron Richardson after they picked up knocks in last week’s game.
Arsene Wenger has a few injury worries with Arteta and Oxlade- Chamberlain still out and Koscielny is banned after his red card at Villa.
Away win- Fulham 1-2 Arsenal
Everton v West Brom
West Brom have had a weird week after having to deal with Anelka walking out of training and possibly even retiring from football after his agent and close friend died. West Brom have granted Anelka compassionate leave and will travel to Goodison park without him. West Brom signed Scott Sinclair this week and he could make his debut on Saturday. Everton visited Carrow road last week in their first game under new manager Roberto Martinez and the game resulted in a 2-2 draw after goals from Barkley and Coleman.
None for West Brom other than Anelka on compassionate leave.
Everton have Distin out after an injury picked up ion the game last week, Darren Gibson is described as being 50-50.
Prediction: Home win- Everton 3-1 West Brom
Hull v Norwich
After a hard start against Chelsea last week Hull take on Norwich at home and their hard work isn’t over yet as Norwich look revived and strengthened after buying a few players in the summer. Hull struggled a bit against Chelsea but in their defence it was first game of season and it could have been worse. Both teams will be chasing their first win of the season this week and it looks set to be a good game.
No injury news.
Prediction: Away win- Hull 0-1 Norwich
Newcastle v West Ham
Losing 4-0 to Man City on the opening week of the season was never going to be a great start and the team have to fight back this week as they take on the Hammers at home. West Ham have spend a lot of money this summer ensuring that they remain in the Premier League and improve on their place last year. Newcastle struggled last season and they need to improve their form if they are to avoid being as close to relegation as they were last season. Both teams have something to prove but West Ham look the stronger team at the moment and have Raznan Rat and Stewart Downing making debuts too.
Newcastle have Taylor suspended after his sending off on Monday night, Tiote is facing a late fitness test on a groin injury and Loic Remy is definitely out with a knee injury.
West Ham are still missing Andy Carroll through a heel injury
Prediction: Away win- Newcastle 0-2 West Ham
Southampton v Sunderland
Both teams are under fairly new management and have made many signings during the summer so the pressure is on to succeed. Southampton won last week after Rickie Lambert completed his perfect week with a great penalty, he also scored for England and his wife gave birth to a girl. Sunderland lost last week but rest assured Di Canio will want to rectify that and will be edging for that win.
No new injury news for both clubs
Prediction: Draw Southampton 2-2 Sunderland
Stoke City v Crystal Palace
Mark Hughes started his season at Merseyside when his team took on Liverpool and despite playing really well they lost 1-0 but Begovic stole the show for them as he looked great throughout the game. Palace took on Tottenham and the also played pretty well and only lost by one goal which wasn’t a bad introduction back to the Premier League. It’s clear that Stoke have the advantage in this game but if Palace can continue their good defensive tactics then they could earn a win here.
Both teams have no injury issues.
Prediction: Draw Stoke City 1-1 Crystal Palace
Aston Villa v Liverpool
Both teams had brilliant opening games as Villa beat Arsenal at Ashburton Grove and Liverpool beat Stoke at home with new signing Mignolet stealing the limelight as he had a fantastic debut. Both teams look really strong and even though they lost to Chelsea during the week Villa will bounce back quick from that game.
Villa players Ciaran Clark, Nathan Baker and Chris Herd all face late fitness tests.
Liverpool announced this week that Sebastian Coates is out for the season with a knee injury.
Prediction: Home win-Aston Villa 2-1 Liverpool
Cardiff City v Manchester City
Cardiff lost their opening game to the Hammers last week and it was altogether a tough introduction for them, they will hopefully come back stronger this weekend for the daunting game against City. Meanwhile City looked on great form Monday night and there seems to have been a lot of tweaking to the team and tactics from new boss Pellegrini, the eased their way to a 4-0 win over Newcastle in great style. This looks like a sure win for City and Cardiff’s defence better be prepared.
Vincent Kompany is out with a groin injury.
Prediction: Away win- Cardiff 0-4 Man City
Tottenham v Swansea
Spurs are on the verge of losing their best player to Real Madrid but AVB is doing a good job of maintaining focus in the team as they cruised to a 1-0 win last week and they also won their Europa game on Thursday night. They have great new additions in the form of Soldado and Paulinho and they look stronger even without Bale. Swansea are on the bounce back from a loss against Man United but they also won their Europa game and will be looking to get their first win of the season as they take on Spurs at White Hart lane.
Swansea’s Ben Davies could return after missing midweek action and De Guzman also returns following his recovery from concussion.
Prediction: Home win-Tottenham 3-2 Swansea
Manchester United v Chelsea will be on a seperate article as team news is not released yet.
Thank you as always for reading.
