The Pitch is Back Weekend Preview-Week 4

After a two-week break for International duty I am so glad to see Premiership football back on this weekend. I miss it too much. In the two-week break I’m sure all the deadline day players have been taking some time getting to know their new clubs and getting settled. This weekend has some great games lined up and I can’t wait to watch them.

This is my preview of the weekend’s games.

Norwich V West Ham

Norwich are lacking on the goal front at the moment and I see this being their biggest issue with this game. Although they have improved after their first game, they haven’t had a win so far this season. Norwich have Bennett and Whittaker injured. West Ham bounced back from their first two losses and beat Fulham. They looked a lot stronger in the last game. They have Carroll out injured who will be replaced by Carlton Cole. The Hammers always seem to be better away and I think they’ll win this match.

Arsenal V Southampton

Arsenal finally broke their scoring deadlock before the International break against Liverpool which was a relief for the Gunners. The looked to be on better form and there are the only team across all 4 leagues that hasn’t conceded this season so far. Diaby is injured and will most likely be replaced by Rosicky. Southampton have had impressive games against Man City and Man United so they will feel confident that they can try that with Arsenal too. I think this will be a very active game and I think Arsenal might grab that win.

Aston Villa v Swansea

Aston Villa haven’t had the best of starts under Lambert and they are still struggling for their first win, they have no injury concerns at the moment but have new boys Benteke and Bowry making debuts.  Swansea are doing very well under new manager Laudrup with two big wins and a great game against Sunderland that resulted in a draw. You can never say a game is an easy one but I think Swansea will win this and there will probably be a few goals too.

Fulham V West Brom

Fulham have had an odd start to the season they stormed their first game and then had to defeats, I think they are struggling to adjust without Dempsey and Dembele. Berbatov is set to make his Fulham debut this weekend and I think that will strengthen up their team. West Brom are unbeaten so far this season and they are sitting pretty, near the top of the league. West Brom haven’t won a game at Craven cottage for 45 years and they will be looking to change that but I think this will be a draw.

Manchester United v Wigan

Manchester United have had a few lucky results in my opinion, their first two games were dubious, especially the Southampton one where they looked as though they were struggling defensively but they won their last one and new boy Van Persie scored a hat trick. Man U have Giggs playing his 600th Premier League game, Scholes on his 700th appearance and Ferdinand on his 400th so it’s a milestone game for the Man U lads. Wigan have had a few form issues so far this season, towards the end of last season they were looking fantastic but we haven’t seen much of that this season so far, probably due to Moses going to Chelsea. Wigan have a few defensive issues after Beausejour and Alcarez are injured. Their loan striker Ryo Miyaichi might make an appearance though. The has a home win written all over it.

Qpr v Chelsea

This could possibly be the game of the week in my opinion.  With all that hyped up energy of a London Derby this is set to be an exciting game. Chelsea lost at Loftus road last year and they will definitely be coming back to win this game and they are the only team to have a full set of wins behind them so far this season. Terry and Cole face fitness tests and Juan Mata could be rested again due to slight injury. Qpr have Diakite out for personal reasons and Anton Ferdinand is facing a last minute fitness test for an injured shoulder. I think this will be a great game, I’m gonna go with a Chelsea win on this one but it could be a draw.

Stoke v Manchester City

Stoke have a few players that are due for debut this week, main ones being Charlie Adam and Micheal Owen (pending last minute fitness test). They have had a rather stale start with 3 points taken from a possible 9 but with a busy summer they might have made the necessary buys to improve the team. Man City have Balotelli back after Laser Eye surgery and its possible Aguero will return from injury.  Man City have had a pretty good start and have maintained their form from last year.  This is a tough week for Mancini’s men as the also have Real Madrid during the week. I think Stoke are going to make it hard for City to win this game so I’m gonna go for a draw.

Sunderland v Liverpool

Sunderland look pretty solid so far, they held their own against Arsenal and Swansea neither of which are easy games. They have Adam Johnson facing a late battle after picking up a thigh injury, and Danny Rose could make his debut for the club.  Liverpool have had a bad start to the season and Brendan Rodgers will be looking to achieve a much-needed win. This game is set to be an emotional one after the Hillsbrough Court case this week but I think Sunderland will be focused enough to ensure a win from this game.

Reading V Tottenham

Newcomers Reading are the most rested team in the league after playing their first two games in the 1st week of the Premier League. They haven’t made an impression so far but I think this game will give us a bit more of an idea how Reading will cope.  Reading have winger Jimmy Kebe back in the team, returning after a hamstring injury. Tottenham have had extra training with AVB after he was disappointed with their dismal draw against Norwich. Hugo Lloris strangely isn’t starting because he has only trained with the team once since joing the club. Found this a little wierd to be honest. I think Tottenham will get their first win of the season over Reading.

Everton v Newcastle

I think this is going to be a great game to watch, both teams have started this season off really strong and they are both playing really well. I thought Everton would suffer without Cahill but they aren’t at all. The Blues have Gibson out due to a thigh strain and Oviedo can’t make his debut yet because his work permit hasn’t been approved. Newcastle are without Krul who sustained an elbow injury in International duty. This has been the hardest game to call this week but I think it will be a draw or there’s a possibility that Newcastle might just nab this one.

So that’s my preview of the weekend’s games. I hope you enjoy watching wherever you are this weekend 🙂
